~ a friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk wrapped package
~ 'this, ~ he said ~ isn't any ordinary package' ~ he unwrapped the silk and stared at the contents
~ 'she got this the first time we went on holiday ~ she has never worn it ~ was saving it for a special occasion ~ well I guess this is it' ~ he got near the bed and placed the package next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral home ~ his wife had just died
~ he turned to me and said
~ 'never save anything for a special occasion ~ every day in your life is special'

~ and every time a crisis developed ~ we would launch one

~ and send millions of tiny parachutes into the air
~ floating down to earth ~ boxes of crayolas
~ and we wouldn’t go cheap, either ~ not little boxes of eight
~ boxes of sixty-four ~ with a sharpener built in
~ with silver, gold, and copper
~ magenta, peach, and lime
~ amber, umber, and all the rest
~ and people would smile
~ get a funny look on their faces

~ the boy and the starfish ~ ♥ ~

~ one morning an old man was walking along the sea shore when he came across a young boy picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea

~ he asked the young boy " why do you waste so much time and energy on the starfish ? "

~ the young boy explained " the starfish would die in the heat of the sun "

~ the old man exclaimed " but there are thousands of starfish !! how can your efforts make any difference ? "

~ the young boy picked up another starfish and as he threw it back into the safety of the sea . . .
